About Us

Inspired by personal tragedy, Dennis Bellehumeur conceived of an interlock system that uses advanced transdermal sensors invisibly embedded in a vehicle’s steering wheel to overcome the stigma associated with breathalyzer systems. With the financial backing of a Board of internationally recognized entrepreneurs, Sober Steering is developing a transdermal interlock system to prevent drunk driving.

In July 2009, Sober Steering was awarded approximately $1.5 million from Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation to develop Sober Steering’s laboratory prototype into a market ready product. Within 12 months, Sober Steering expects to begin consumer testing of its first product, the Zero-Tolerance System.

Sober Steering’s breakthrough advances in transdermal technology are the first step in developing a market ready product to replace breathalyzer systems. Just as the superior technology of the compact disc rendered VHS tapes obsolete in the electronics market, so too will the Sober Steering render breathalyzer systems obsolete in the ignition interlock market.
